What is Showcase?
The Showcase section of SecondLife.com and the Second Life viewer highlights some of the best inworld locations and Resident creations. For new and existing Residents alike, this is the place to go to explore and discover what's most exciting in the Second Life world. Showcase features Arts & Culture, Education & Nonprofit, Fashion, Hot Spots, Music, Photos & Machinima, and Tutorials.
Venues and content featured in Showcase are not paid placements. Currently, the best way to promote your venue, event or business is through inworld Search or the Classifieds.
How do you determine which venues and content to feature in Showcase?
Showcase is a place to show off some of the most interesting, entertaining, and novel Resident-created content. Showcase is for existing Residents as well as potential Residents exploring the SecondLife.com Web site for the first time. At any given time, the featured content will be limited. We will be looking for content that we believe "showcases" the best of Second Life.
Criteria favoring selection include:
- Is the venue a high-quality implementation of the Second Life experience?
- Does the venue appeal broadly to the Second Life community?
- Is the venue exceptional or unique?
- Is the venue being promoted outside Second Life and participating in the inSL logo program?
- Does the image accompanying the submission meet the guidelines outlined below in question 6?
Criteria weighing against selection include:
- Has the venue or one like it been included before?
- Has the venue ever been warned for failure to comply with any aspect of the Terms of Service?
How often will you update Showcase listings?
Regularly. We want to keep the Showcase area fresh so visitors will return frequently to discover new ways to explore Second Life.
I can't find what I'm looking for in Showcase. What should I do?
Showcase features select inworld locations that are high-quality and appeal broadly to the Second Life community. For a more comprehensive listing of venues, Residents should use the Search function within the Second Life client. We encourage all venue owners to review these guidelines on maximizing your presence using inworld Search.
Can I suggest my venue for inclusion in Showcase?
Yes, you may do this using the Showcase Suggestion page. We value community input and encourage Residents to suggest their venues.
Residents are limited to two submissions each 30 days (beginning with the date of your first submission) — so be sure to make your suggestion count!
To be eligible for inclusion, suggested venues must comply with the Community Standards, Trademark Guidelines, and other provisions of the Terms of Service. The ultimate decision to include or not include any suggested venue or content in Showcase is Linden Lab's in its sole discretion.
For any content you suggest, you must have the necessary rights and permissions to use and to authorize Linden Lab to use the content. You must not suggest content that is copyrighted or otherwise subject to another party's proprietary rights (including privacy, publicity, trademark, and trade secret rights) unless you own the rights or have the permission of the rights owner. We do not permit intellectual property infringement and may remove content from our Web site and services if properly notified that the content infringes another's intellectual property rights.
Journalists, publishers, filmmakers, and others interested in Second Life often contact Linden Lab for images of Second Life. Linden Lab may direct these parties to the Photos & Machinima section in Showcase.
When submitting a link that includes a suggested image through the Showcase Suggestion page, you may choose to permit Linden Lab to make the image available for use by third parties under a Creative Commons license of your choice. To do this, you must have a Creative Commons license associated with your suggested image on Flickr. And, you must have the necessary rights and permissions to authorize the third-party use.
All venues and images suggested to Linden Lab are subject to the Terms and Conditions for Showcase Suggestions.

What sort of image should I include with my Showcase suggestion?
A great deal of consideration is given to the quality of the image that accompanies venue suggestions. Therefore, the following guidelines should be considered carefully when preparing your venue entry.
The Showcase Suggestion page contains a field where you can enter the URL of a Flickr-hosted inworld image for your venue. Please note that the form will only accept images that are 500w x 300h pixels in the JPEG format. File size should not exceed 100KB.
When composing your inworld image, please consider the framing of your image carefully. If your entry is published, it will appear both in the Second Life client under the Showcase tab in Search and on the Second Life Web site's Showcase section.
On the Web site, some featured venue images will appear in a Flash-based area at the top of each category page where a text overlay will display the description of your venue on the bottom 1/4th of the image. Therefore, key visual elements in that space may not be clearly visible to Web visitors.
Thus, it is not necessary to add any additional promotional text via Photoshop within the submitted image. Images with embedded text are likely to be considered promotional in nature and are better suited for our Classifieds

Can I suggest a video for the Photos & Machinima section?
Absolutely! Our Photos & Machinima section in Showcase highlights some of the best Second Life videos found on the Internet. If you have created a video using Second Life and would like us to consider it for featured placement, please send us the link.
Currently, our Photos & Machinima section only supports videos uploaded to YouTube.
Please do not submit links to other people's video creations. Videos you submit must be your own, and you must have the necessary rights and permissions to use and to authorize Linden Lab to use the videos. This includes the right and permission to use any music and images. All video suggestions are subject to the Terms and Conditions for Showcase Suggestions.
Please send your video link to Second Life Editors

My venue is already featured, but I need to contact an editor to change or remove my entry. Who do I contact?
If you need to contact Linden Lab about an existing entry, please send a note to the Second Life Editors. Please note that editors will not be able to respond to all inquiries about submissions that have not been published.
